Since February 2022, Russia has been waging an aggressor war in Ukraine. Millions of people are fleeing. An end is not in sight. To present the positions of Ukrainian artists, to examine nation-building processes, and to explore the legacy of post-Soviet socialization, the Stiftung Neue Kunst Berlin-Brandenburg (SNKBB), in collaboration with Better Life GmbH, has launched the exhibition “POSTOST: Україна / Ukraine.” All proceeds will be directly donated to the Ukrainian Cultural Community (UCC) in Berlin, minus any incurred costs.

The exhibition primarily brings together the positions of Ukrainian artists. This creates a prism-like view of a present in war, everyday life under threat, and stories of identification, solidarity, and belonging. Featured in the exhibition are: Volo Bevza, Daria Kozlova & Arwin Ahm, Maria Kebu, Sasha Kurmaz, Boris Mikhailov, Monday Kitchen, Victoria Pidust, Marija Prymatschenko, Liza Riabinina, Anatolii Sachivko, and Nikita Teryoshin.

New works by Volo Bevza and Victoria Pidust, created in collaboration with 4Spaces | ZigZagZurich, will be showcased, specifically produced for the exhibition. Additionally, the paintings by Marija Prymatschenko, reconstructed as wool blankets, will be presented for the first time as part of the exhibition. The original paintings were destroyed in an attack on the museum in Iwankiw - an irretrievable loss for Ukrainian art history. Several works from various decades of Boris Mikhailov’s creation provide a perspective that is ahead of its time and always contemporary, documenting the urgency of missing historical reinterpretation through their socially critical momentum.

The opening on Saturday, June 18, 2022, was inaugurated alongside some of the participating artists by Neukölln Mayor Martin Hikel, as patron. The opening was also enhanced by a performance from choreographer and dancer Liza Riabinina from Kyiv and Nikita Teryoshin’s “Not in my name,” 2022, Anatolii Sachivko’s “Vudurudu,” Film Still, 2022, and vocal artist Maria Kebu. In addition to the regular exhibition hours, there will be a program every second Saturday of the month featuring music, panel discussions, and artist talks. The concept and curation are by Julia and Marcus Boxler. The premises are provided free of charge by VALUES Real Estate.
